Big Corn Island, Nicaragua (Textor)
Simple Swedish style marries cool Caribbean charm at this small, personable guest house north of the town of Hillsborough.
The proprietors, a Swedish family of longstanding residence on Carriacou, are open and friendly, as are their very kind staff. During our week-long visit the staff ran the show while the owners were away, and they were among the sweetest managers we’ve met in our many adventures in the Caribbean.
Rooms are basic but charming. Design is understated in a minimalist yet funky manner.
The hotel has a very welcoming open-air atmosphere, from the upstairs restaurant terrace to the well-shaded lounge area just inside the hotel’s gate, to the sloping garden with remarkable sea views. The hotel’s restaurant is very fine—though not quite so budget-friendly as the hotel rates—and offers up delicious meals.
